Mulu Caves + Pinnacles + Headhunter Trail / full board:
Duration: 5 Days / 4 Nights
Day 1
Meet on arrival at Mulu Airstrip and transfer to the Park's guesthouse.
After lunch, depart for a 3 km plank walk through peat swamp forest to
visit Lang Cave and proceed to the Deer Cave. Explore the cave passage,
its inhabitants and view the "Garden of Eden". In the late afternoon,
witness the flight of thousand of bats on their feeding forays and
returns to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay. (L, D)
Day 2
After breakfast, depart by motorized longboat going upriver against the
many rapids, poling in the crystal clear water of the Melinau River Wind
Cave, Clearwater Cave with picnic-lunch at Clearwater Spring. Proceed by
longboat further up the river negotiating more rapids, tricky bends on
the crystal clear water underneath the cool thick over-hanging jungle
foliage for about 2 hours to reach Long Lutut. Then trek through the
jungle for about 2 hours to reach Camp 5, located at the foot hill of
Gunung Api, dinner and overnight stay at the Park Hut. (B, L, D)
Day 3
After breakfast, comes a physically strenuous climb for about 4 hours to
the "view point" of Gunung Api to catch the spectacular sight of the
magnificent limestone Pinnacles soaring to as high as 50 meters or more
about the tree tops with box-lunch before descending to camp 5, dinner
and overnight stay at the Park Hut.
Day 4
After breakfast, trekking along the Head Hunter's Trail ( used by the
Kayan tribe over a century ago ) for about 4 hours through the forest
before arrival at Terikan River for lunch. Proceed by boat to Bala
Longhouse, welcome by the longhouse dwellers, dinner, social gathering
with the natives and overnight at the longhouse. (B, L, D)
Day 5
After breakfast, depart by boat for about 1 hour to Nanga Medamit, then
by bus for about 1 hour to Limbang Town for lunch and transfer to the
airport for flight departure. (B,L)
Note
Bring along good trekking shoes, thongs, raincoat, swim suit, sweater,
torch light, insect repellent, waterproof gloves, sleeping bag, water
bottles and high energy giving food.
