Lemenak River + Longhouse / full board:

Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights

Day 1

Morning, depart Kuching for 4 hours leisure drive to the Lemanak Jetty. There will be three stop-over along the route, I) Serian – a predominant dayak trading town, II) Chinese farm to see how pepper and cocoa are grown, III) At Lachau for lunch. The journey passes through scenic countryside of rice fields, rubber, cocoa, pepper, and oil palm plantations, which intermingle with luxuriant tropical rainforest, rivers and mountain ranges. Upon arrival at the river jetty, proceed by motorized longboat going up river against of the many rapids, padding and poling in the clear water of the Lemanak River underneath the cool thick over-hanging jungle foliage for about 45 minutes to reach the Longhouse and check in at the guesthouse. Proceed to the longhouse for a warm welcome by the natives, which comprises of "miring" ( welcoming rituals ) and cultural dances. Tour the longhouse, watch the natives at work such as making mats, baskets, handicrafts and mending fishing nets. Join the natives in their daily chores like feeding their livestock, washing clothes, swim in the river or just relaxing by the riverbank. After dinner, return to the longhouse for social gathering with the "Tuai Rumah" ( headman ), the longhouse dwellers and presentation of gifts. "Tuak" ( a potent rice wine ) will be served and there will be more cultural performances ( where you can partake ) before retiring for the night at the guesthouse. (L, D)

Day 2
After breakfast, witness cockfighting and blowpipe demonstration, followed by a jungle walk to learn about the forest privy, with the guide highlighting the various plants, which the natives use for food, making traditional medicine, handicraft and watch how the natives set up ingenious animal traps. The trail also passes through an Iban burial ground. Proceed by longboat going further up the Lemanak River negotiating more rapids and tricky bends, fishing, making a few stops to collect jungle produce and lunch in native style at the riverbank. Visit another longhouse, drift down river by paddling and poling in the clear water, visit a school, cross a native suspension bridge, return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay. Day 3
After breakfast, return by longboat to the jetty, then by coach to Kuching with lunch en route. (B, L)

Dress casually, wear tennis shoes or thongs, swim suit, insect repellent, touch light and raincoat.
