Niah National Park + Lunch:

Morning, depart Miri for a 2 hours drive passing trough oil palm plantation, secondary forest, picturesque countryside and Batu Niah – a small inland town. Proceed to the park headquarters, then by boat to cross the Niah River, followed by a 45 minutes walk on a raised plank-walk ( 4km long ), which snakes through a lush rainforest to reach the Niah Cave entrance. Explore this famous cave system, archaeological sites and primitive hematite painting on the walls. Observe the bewildering and dangerous maneuver of bird-nest collectors climbing flimsy scaffolding and poles to reach the dark crevasses of the caves to collect the nest. After lunch, return to Miri via the same route. (L)
